My name is Jane C. Olson. I am a
U.S. citizen from the state of California. I have been a
teacher since 1992, and I have lived and taught in Romania, Saudi
Arabia, China, and Indonesia. My experience is mostly in the
intermediate grades of four and five, but I have also taught
Kindergarten, K/1, and second grade.
Before teaching, I was a counselor working with teenage girls who
had been removed from their homes. As the Assistant Director of a
group home, I worked closely with the schools to ensure the girls
in our charge remained in school. I was also a Customer Service
Representative for ten years for what is now AT&T.
In my opinion, education is the key to our world sustainability, as
well as world peace. I believe my part in that is helping children
become critical thinkers who can solve the problems created by our
overuse of resources and our difficulty in learning to live
together peacefully and with tolerance. My classroom is a place
where children can question, think for themselves, become organized
respectful members of the community, and make mistakes without
worry.
I look forward to a fruitful and productive year. We will work
hard, play hard, and laugh loudly. The motto here is, “I can
and I will!” I raise the bar high for my students. I work
hard and I expect them to put in their best efforts, as well.
We may not all make it to the top at the same time, but as long as
we move in the same direction, we will arrive at the same
destination.
I welcome you and you children to a fun-packed year in 2009-2010
Fourth grade is a big transition year and the children will mature
magically in front of our very eyes. This will require your
patience with me, letting go of your child a bit more than you have
been used to, and allowing each of your children to discover the
gift of becoming more mature and responsible for themselves. I look
forward to our working together to help the children accomplish
these goals.
If you should need to reach me, you can email me at
jolson@aislagos.com or feel free to make an appointment with the
office. I do ask that you make an appointment with me if you should
have questions or concerns. I can give you my full attention that
way and hear what you have to say. We need to work together
for the benefit of your child, and I look forward to our
partnership this year. My hope is for us to appreciate each other
and learn from each other as we work towards helping your children
reach their full potential.
Feel free to discover some of what we accomplished last year by
perusing this website. Thanks for your time.
